LES MISÉRABLES This winter, Signature Theatre re-invents the blockbuster musical Les Misérables. Based on Victor Hugo's 1862 classic novel, this beloved show is a sweeping, uplifting, epic saga that has thrilled audiences throughout the world. The fugitive Jean Valjean is pitted against the tenacious Inspector Javert in a lifelong struggle to evade capture; their high-stakes conflict is a deeply personal tale set brought to vivid life against a historical backdrop of unparalleled scale. Packed with show-stopping musical numbers like “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” and “One Day More,” this brand-new production features a 28-member cast and a 14-piece orchestra, all in Signature’s intimate, 280-seat black box theater. This promises to be the musical experience of a lifetime! Production dates: TWO CHILDREN ARE BEING CAST (to perform in rotation) IN EACH OF THE FOLLOWING ROLES: GAVROCHE: must be under 46”; GAVROCHE is Thenardier's son. He is left to fend for himself and lives by his wits in the streets of Paris. His "arch enemy" is Javert the Policeman. He is brave and witty. Think a young Artful Dodger. YOUNG COSETTE: must be under 42”; YOUNG COSETTE is the child of Fantine. She is the ward of the Thenardiers forced into child labor and sings "Castle On A Cloud." She is a trembling little creature, underfed, beaten by Madame Thenardier and bullied by Eponine. YOUNG EPONINE: YOUNG EPONINE is the pampered daughter of the Thenardiers. Her main role is to enter the stage and taunt Little Cosette. The role requires no singing or speaking. Most rehearsals are during the day from 10am-6pm, Monday-Saturday. Sundays are off except during tech week and during the performance schedule. There is the possibility of evening rehearsals. We try and work around the children’s school schedules so they don’t miss classes. On performance days the children are required to be here 30 minutes before the curtain time. There will be someone on staff to serve as the “child wrangler” for the production (supervising them during rehearsals, performances, backstage, etc.). The contract is a non-equity contract for the children’s roles. Auditions are on first-come, first-serve basis with a sign-up sheet starting at 2:30pm Sunday, October 19 at Signature Theatre.
